Life & Work

This is an introduction to the supports and benefits available for employees. Various systems are designed for the flexibility and enrichment of employees' lives to accommodate diverse lifestyles.

Life

At SMK, just as we strive to enhance your working hours, we aim to enhance the private time enjoyed by employees.
Here we present our supports for child-care and family, as well as benefits for better enjoyment of days off.

Flexible days off

In addition to holidays for all employees, this system allows individuals to take four-day holidays at the time of their choosing. It can be joined on to weekends or annual leave for a longer break.

Child-care leave of absence system

The maximum period of leave is three years, which exceeds the statutory limit in Japan for both men and women. This is an environment that makes it easy to take leave.

Nursing care leave of absence system

Up to one year of leave can be taken if you are committed to caring for a family member, be it for reasons of old age or illness.

Short working hour system

You can work shorter hours until your child starts elementary school to take care of them, for up to one year if you are nursing your family member, and for up to seven months if you are recovering from injury or illness.

Scholarship repayment support

We can takeover your scholarship from Japan Student Services Organization. We pay back 10,000 yen per month for up to 10 years.

Housing allowance and staff dormitories

You can move into a staff dormitory if you meet the criteria. Housing allowance is paid if you own or rent your house.

A single person living in Tokyo would be paid 27,000 yen per month, etc.

Recreational facilities / travel subsidies

SMK has a recreational facility, in Sugadaira, Nagano Prefecture.
Employees can also use facilities in Yugawara and Hawaii directly run by the Health Insurance Association as well as allied facilities throughout Japan.

Stays in Japan Health Insurance Association accommodation are subsidized up to 5,000 yen per night.

Staff cafeteria

The Head Office, Toyama Works, and Hitachi Works are fully equipped with staff cafeterias. Employees at sales offices that do not have such a cafeteria are provided with a monthly lunch subsidy of 5,000 yen.

Club activities

SMK has various clubs for cultural and sporting pursuits, which can widen your social circle within the company.

Tennis club, soccer club, running club, shogi club, tea ceremony club, band club, and more.

Work

At SMK, we have systems that allow employees to work flexibly with self-management.
Also, take a look at our programs that support staff upskilling.

Flextime system

We have a flextime system for all staff (core time is 10:20-15:35). Each employee chooses their own working hours, leading to autonomy and independence in execution of tasks and respect for different lifestyles.

Teleworking system

Regardless of the reason, all employees can work from home four days a week. And as long as security is assured, they can also choose where they wish to work.

Working area limited system

When a change in lifestyle makes it difficult to transfer, even for career-track employees, an application can be made for the working area limited system.

Those recruited to general positions are in principle not subject to transfer.

Language skill allowance

At SMK, Japanese, English, and Chinese are official languages. An allowance for advanced language skill is paid to employees who harness their language skills worldwide.

10,000 yen per month is paid to those with a TOIEC score of 860 or over, etc.

Qualification acquisition support

We provide subsidies for items such as examination fees and course materials to support the acquisition of qualifications, including improving language scores, the Japan Business Law Examination, and the IT Passport Examination.

Second jobs

To the extent possible, second jobs are permitted by SMK.
