We are living in an age of VUCA (volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity). In particular, the digitalization of society and the spread of AI, along with the digital transformation (DX) efforts by companies in every sector, are significantly changing the way we live and do business. Demands for more sustainable business activities as symbolized by the quest for carbon neutrality, as well as the diversification of working styles with the rise of work from home in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic, are causing great changes in our world.

SMK views these market conditions as an opportunity and we are looking to broaden our business. We are expanding from the electronics sector including communication devices and home appliances to other markets such as mobility, healthcare, and housing equipment.

As such, SMK has outlined a long-term vision: "We will contribute to the next 100 years with our manufacturing capabilities that realize all kinds of needs".

Under the vision of "CREATIVE CONNECTIVITY -Challenge, Creativity, Solutions", SMK will fearlessly challenge the new frontier by connective technologies from people to people, people to products, and products to products, to meet various needs in society.

Customization Capabilities

In the founding spirit of "Good Parts Create Good Final Products," SMK has been able to accurately understand and address customer needs and desires with its flexible, nimble, and customization capabilities. This customization is one of SMK's major strengths. We can also provide high added-value products and services that cannot be fully delivered with standard products. In addition, we offer a wide variety of electronic components such as connectors, switches, remote controls, and camera modules, and we are expanding our business to a wide range of markets. It is also possible to harness the technologies developed in one field for product development in other fields.

Core Technologies

SMK, which has connective technologies at its heart, has built up a deep inventory of technologies over the century since its founding. In addition to mechanical design technologies, part of our repertoire for 100 years, these include circuit design technologies and software development technologies.
Furthermore, as computers, telephones, TV and audio have evolved into portable devices, we have cultivated solutions for miniaturization, lightweight and low-profile* technology as a result of manufacturing the electronics for these devices. These technologies are also being used in products such as wearables and are a factor in our competitive edge.
And when it comes to electronics used in CASE mobility, 5G, and healthcare, for example, we have an advantage in high-frequency technologies that enable high-speed data.
We are ahead in production tech, manufacturing a lot of production equipment in-house to assist automation and streamlining.
By combining these core technologies with various elements, we are able to deliver value-added goods and services. In addition, we have adopted a front-loading development methodology that aims to improve production efficiency and quality from the early stages.

Global Presence

SMK first expanded outside Japan in the 1970s, and in recent years, sales in Western countries and Asia have accounted for around 70% of total turnover. We have production, development, and sales bases across the world and we are strengthening their connections as a network. We are currently aiming for a one-stop service in every region that can take care of everything from sales promotion to development, production, and delivery.

We have also been pursuing "transnational management". Today, around 80% of all employees working at our offices and factories worldwide are foreign nationals, so our workplace environments are equally transnational. These are workplaces in which our employees understand and respect each other's different cultures and ways of thinking, and work collaboratively, generating original thoughts and ideas.

Open Innovation

Using open innovation, SMK has created whole new fields of business such as touch panels.
We pursue tie-ups with companies and universities around the world, primarily in Western countries, Japan, and the Middle East. Harnessing this network and SMK's mass production design and manufacturing know-how, we match innovations with the challenges and needs of our customers.

Who we are looking for

SMK is looking for people who share our Philosophy, Action Guidelines, Charter for Corporate Behavior, and Vision. We believe that phrases such as "contribute to society" in the Action Guidelines and "spirit of independence, self-help, and self-regulation" in the Group Charter for Corporate Behavior are especially important.

SMK has been able to reliably meet the requirements of its customers with solutions using customization. In order to expand into new areas of business and deliver new value, it will be essential to further evolve and develop this customization capability and grasp needs before our customers have even perceived them. We hope that people who are willing to work together to solve social problems without relying only on conventional wisdom and past experience, but rather a higher-level perspective of "contributing to society through technology" and a spirit of altruism will join us.

We also need people who think and act for themselves, who build their networks within the company and outside of it, and who are proactive, rather than taking a passive approach to challenge unfamiliar new fields. You need a growth mindset and to be open to continuous self-development and self-improvement.
